Nice one, Centurion. I was worried the missing toilet seat had found it's way into Dylan's posession.

I saw that as well, although i think it is safe to post here. They aren't going to be free downloads. It will be curious to see how they are received as they picked a doozy for the first release (5-15-70) but they aren't releasing the full show. So its like a digital downloads version of Road Trips and they aren't cheap. For flacs of only 9 songs from the late show set 1 it will run you $12.98 ($9.98 for .mp3). I just hope that these releases will not affect streaming availability of shows here like those from dead.net.

There was nothing in the newsletter, so far as I could see, that would indicate that all of the shows being released would be Grateful Dead shows. Just because the first two are it doesn't mean the rest will be too.

Howdy Robert,

If you look at the yahoo news clip that is posted a little further down the thread, it discusses this issue. They expect to have everything they currently have available for streaming, to be downloadable by the beginning of 2010. This includes Dead and non-Dead with a few notable exceptions. I think they mentioned 160 Dead concerts. It also suggests they have more stuff that is not currently being streamed that they hope to make available. I guess its a good thing as i might make GDP/Rhino pick up the pace now that there is competition and hopefully force them to start selling the new releases in these formats instead of making people purchase CDs as well as not having worldwide distribution of the CDs. However I can't help but be concerned that the representative from Wolfgang's Vault used the word "exploit" in their quote about what they were going to do with their music. I am also concerned about how this may effect access here.

Thanks, Larry - and howdy to you too! I own up to being guilty of shirking my link clicking responsibilities. I share your concerns about the use of the word 'exploit' in the context of something we share and love. It's difficult to think of Grateful Dead music as a commodity but to some people that's exactly what it is. Doubtless some will be excited by the prospect of these shows being made available, though I wouldn't be surprised if in some instances we find it hard to distinguish between the 'vault' releases and the Miller and Seamons upgrades we have now - because there surely will be overlap. And doubtless also some people are going to take the opportunity to fill their pockets for free while they can, just in case.

For the first and second sets of the late show it runs about $26 for the FLACS... the only way I would buy it is if it were remastered. For now my free copy of both the early/late shows from the master reels will do just fine. Funny, I just played that show yesterday...

No need to be hush hush, the big legal eye of the band has already had a go round with Wolfgangs, and there may be more in the offing.

Anyhow it's an available FLAC DL for this particular show from Wolfgangs. Seems like they're testing the waters on lossless.

No Big.

Please feel free to keep us updated. I only open my email from dear Bill rarely. Perhaps I'll waste more time if I try to keep up!

looks like rhino may have some competition. Got this email today.

Wolfgang's Vault is "Cracking the Vault" with hundreds of concerts to be unlocked for download for the first time ever by November 3rd. The two Grateful Dead sets released today are just a taste of the hundreds of shows that will be yours to purchase as part of Cracking the Vault Day. Enjoy.

Looks like someone knows what the fans are looking for. Let's hope some rare boards are found, we can only hope. Peace
